Superconductivity in strongly repulsive fermions: the role of kinetic-energy frustration.

چکیده
We discuss a physical mechanism of a non-BCS nature which can stabilize a superconducting state in a strongly repulsive electronic system. By considering the two-dimensional Hubbard model with spatially modulated electron hoppings, we demonstrate how kinetic-energy frustration can lead to robust d-wave superconductivity at arbitrarily large on-site repulsion. This phenomenon should be observable in experiments using fermionic atoms, e.g. 40K, in specially prepared optical lattices.

Superfrustration of charge degrees of freedom
We review recent results, obtained with P. Fendley, on frustration of quantum charges in lattice models for itinerant fermions with strong repulsive interactions. A judicious tuning of kinetic and interaction terms leads to models possessing supersymmetry. In such models frustration takes the form of what we call superfrustration: an extensive degeneracy of supersymmetric ground states. We pres...

Within the charge-spin separation fermion-spin theory, the mechanism of superconductivity in NaxCoO2 ·yH2O is studied. It is shown that dressed fermions interact occurring directly through the kinetic energy by exchanging magnetic excitations. This interaction leads to a net attractive force between dressed fermions(then the electron Cooper pairs), and their condensation reveals the superconduc...
متن کاملDimensional tuning of electronic states under strong and frustrated interactions.
We study a model of strongly interacting spinless fermions on an anisotropic triangular lattice. At half-filling and the limit of strong repulsive nearest-neighbor interactions, the fermions align in stripes and form an insulating state. When a particle is doped, it either follows a one-dimensional free motion along the stripes or fractionalizes perpendicular to the stripes. The two propagation...

We study the effects of disorder on a system of two coupled chain of strongly correlated fermions (ladder system), using a renormalization group technique. The stability of the phases of the pure system has been investigated as a function of interactions both for fermions with spin and spinless fermions. For spinless fermions the repulsive side is strongly localized whereas the system with attr...
